Ask the Wallcoverings Association for the top colors in wallpaper and – dare we say – certain patterns emerge. Neutrals, especially serenity-inducing gray, surfaces as consumers play it safe in challenging times (pair charcoal or heather with green and purple to heighten the allure). Perennially chic black-and-white is a front-runner as this combo offers a lot of bang for the buck. Eco-inspired greens and blues envelop a room in meditative calm, either through the intensity of olive and ocean blue or the exuberance of lime (which is great with purple). Mustard yellow, so prevalent in fashion, asserts itself in wallpaper as a complement to all of the above, particularly gray. Noting bronze‘s uptick in kitchen appliances and decorative hardware, wallpaper designers are elevating this earthy metal with dressy designs and clever textural effects. Bright, cheery fuchsia, coral and cobalt stand as the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel” – or as a feature wall at the end of a hallway.
